I believe that this tv will accept 24fps and plays such content back without any noticeable judder.

Nah the PX70 does accept 24fps even though it isn't mentioned anywhere by Panasonic, although it does a 3:2 conversion to display it rather than showing it at it's correct speed like the PX80. It still looks fine though.

Hi ,

I also own the Panasonic TH-37PX70BA and would like to get into BlueRay but the lack of 24p support on my TV has made me think again until know for sure that I am not investing my money in something I may not be happy with , particularly the motion judder effect I have read about .

I contacted Panasonic's service people and they replied with this :

"In response, I would explain that although the PX70 does not support 24p playback, the television will still work correctly with the Blu-Ray player; It will display the image in 50Hz rather than a multiple of 24Hz"

Still I need to see for myself before I commit , I was going for the Panasonic DMP-BD35 which you would think would work well with my plasma but I am uncertain as to the frame rate trickery employed.

My TV doesn't accept 24fps natively (also an older Panasonic) but I don't really notice motion judder - I think it's something you either you don't really notice or you can't stand. Best bet would be to go to a dealer and explain the issue and get one on a home trial (you can just rent some Blu-Rays from Lovefilm or somewhere in advance) so you can see for yourself. If you can't handle it, you can then just send it all back.

Knowing I am getting the sony 550 for xmas i got a bit carried away and have already bought 16 blueray movies so im kind of commited already, cant you just turn off 24fps mode and go traditional or is that partly what makes blueray what it is?

I have the th37px70b and dmp-bd35 blu-ray. The blu-ray player can send the signal as 1080p but it will not send as 24fps.

Although this is a great TV i am slightly disappointed as most reviews said it could accept 24fps. Having said that blu-ray still looks great with no noticeble juddering.

Don't worry. My 40 inch Sony doesn't do 24fps but the S550 still give it a fantastic picture.

The 2007 Panasonic certainly accepted a 24fps signal from a range of first-gen Blu-ray/HD DVD players - including the PS3. We ran four PX70/700 models at our Show last year being fed Blu-ray at 24fps, for example.

I'm guessing this is, ironically, the new-generation Panasonic Blu-ray players only outputting at 24fps to displays that natively support the frame rate.

Well there is your answer, thanks Clare. Any chance this being resolved by firmware upgrade in the future, i am guessing not

The detail level factor never concerned me but any noticable frame rate adjustments particularly to panning shots would bother me .

I remember going through something similar when DVD first landed and the first disc I ever bought had the video and audio out of sync' , I

freaked out luckily that was a rare issue unlike what this could be for me.

Question for Clare , if you owned the Panasonic TH-37PX70BA and wanted to replay Blue Ray movies on it which player would you opt for to give the best playback ?

Do you think that the larger the screen the more obvious the 3:2 pulldown is noticable ?

I would like to get into Blue Ray but I have only had the TV 12 months and will not be upgrading anytime soon , I know only I can make the finally decision but your input and experience would helpful.

regards

Dave

It's tough to say, as the majority of Blu-ray players we tested with the Panasonic last year have now been discontinued - so I have no way of knowing, for example, how the new Sonys would react to your set.

The exception to this is the Sony PlayStation 3 - if you're into gaming and are tempted by everything the PS3 has to offer (streaming, internet access etc) it maybe worth considering, as I know that works fine with the PX70, with minimal juddering.

My only caveat to the latter, however, is that some people seem more bothered by 3:2 pulldown and any related occasional judder (on panning shots) than others - like some people are more sensitive to 100hz processing, or any other digital processing technique.

Could you borrow a few different BD players/PS3 from friends/family/retailer and see what suits your set?

got the sony550s for xmas and having set it to auto it doesnt output to the panasonic px70 at 24 frames a second, so unless you can force the machine to do so? That aside though picture quality over my panasonic dvd recorder( which upscales to 1080p) is better but not a vast improvement. The sound however is awesome, strange though cause its not HD, just normal 5.1. I struggled for months with the audio, every time I watched a new dvd I had to alter the speaker volumes, sounds were not from distinct places etc. Now its just how i expected it should have been, so apart from the 24fs issue well happy!

I don't know anyone with a playstation 3 and must confess I don't have the time for gaming either so the PS3 option isn't really a starter for me , it just looks like I need to see this judder / 3:2 pull down effect for myself to see if it is an issue for me or not.

I never thought that having bought a 720p plasma TV only 12 months ago that I would be stalling over an uncertainty over whether it would be able to perform correctly with Blue Ray technology especially when you realise how long Blue Ray has been around.

Thanks for all he replies it looks like I thought until I get visual proof for myself I'm staying with SD DVDs for the time being .

I'm in a similar situation with regards the Panny PX 70 TV and BD35 Blu Ray player. I've noticed that it wont allow me to select 24fps on the players set up menu. Since 24 fps is one of the main features of Blu Ray i would like to have it available and was wondering if an amp can do the conversion for me. I am just about to buy an amp and was wondering if an amp with scaling/converting built in could accept the video from the player in 24 fps and send it to the TV.

Apologies if that is a stupid question because i'm still new to all this HD stuff. If it is possible, could somebody please recommend a good mid range amp that could do it?

Audio is one of my main concerns & i am doing what you were doing, tinkering with the volume. How are you connecting the player to your amp for the audio, with hdmi, optical or co ax.

I have the 50px70 with the bd30 and can't turn 24fps to on, did you do the test on the bd30 with the px70. I have noticed some judder on some slow panning shots and once you have seen it once you tend to keep looking for it.
