I am about to buy some mains cable upgrades. One of the cables is for the pana 42PX80 Plasma with a recessed socket.

1. Will a wattgate plug fit it?

2.looking to buy a copperline alpha and a 16 core braided cable from tm3connections (thanks for tip alienrik). Any comment would be welcome!

If your TV is anything like mine (PZ81), probably not. I have tried a couple of mains cables on my TV and couldn't get them to fit (clip) inc. ones with wattgates fitted.

Have you got the Chord Superscreen to fit a Panny Plasma?

Nope, havent got a Panny. However the Superscreen with its moulded plug shouldn't be any bigger than a standard IEC plug. Much like the QED Qonduit, only slightly better reviews.

I got a russ andrews yello power cord to fit my px70 but now i use that on my ps3 and instead use an ixos one (Ixos XHP125 UK Mains Cable £12.70 delivered )to my panny. Try this link where i got mine if you interested:

Well in all fairness no matter how you look at it, you can't beat the 'ixos' for the very low price of under £13, oxy/free copper (better than tough pitch like standard) and the fact its twisted geometry should go some way to stopping emi/rf etc.
The rs yello used to be £30+ so is better but not really noticably so, but get either and you can't go wrong compared with the standard cable as the yello's go for under £25 on ebay! just chose these two cos they cheap and they fit the px70 ok.
Cheers, hope this helps.

As there are no performance gains to be had from changing the mains lead why not just use the one that comes with it?

Apologies Andrew if you meant me, i was only trying to help out and recommending from personal experience, would in no way want to encourage a ban. :(

Are you the master of your local hunt or is that some sort of cryptic clue? Sorry, I don't get it.

Getting back to the subject. As there are no performance gains to be had what's wrong with just using the cable that comes with the box?

On the one hand you want advice yet you are completely dismissing the gains without even trying them, fine to have an opinion but one that is from a valid point such as if you have tried a number of cables and not noticed a difference. I have told you the couple to try and if you do not believe then fair enough and just sell them on.

Don't worry about it Paul, the OP seems to want to give it a go and his opinion is the one that's important in this thread.

To the OP - you can always contact Darren at Clearer Audio about whether his plug will fit - I can verify he's very helpful and if he's not sure, their 60 day money back guarantee will cover you so you can send it back for a full refund (including postage) if it doesn't. I use the Copperline Alpha on my AV receiver and can confirm it's made some positive benefits with music playback.

Details for Clearer Audio can be found here - just click on the About Us link.

Just recieved a 16 core braided copper cable with IECconnector. It DOES NOT FIT THE Panasonic 42 PX 80 - gutted! I will probably by a fig. 8 adaptor and use it for my sky box.

Has anyone upgraded the mains cable on the pana - and it fitted!

Think there are 2 issues , the recess and if you Panny has the plastic cover clip over the IEC. My PZ81 has plastic cover clip and I've not found a lead that fits yet and I want the cover clip in place to lock the cable

d4v3pum4:Hmm, I have those and they didn't fit my PX81.

You've got to push it in quite far. It's a very snug fit. Perhaps the PX81 is just a little bit different from the PX80?

Hello Dan,

The Panasonic TH-42PX80 does not accept the Wattgate 320i IEC since there is not enough room for the connector. Our Copper-line Alpha Power Cable with Standard IEC should fit but it will not lock into place like the factory connector.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Darren
