Does a Virgin Media HD box send audio using an HDMI cable?

Hello can anyone tell me is a Virgin Media HD box sends sound as well as video when only using a HDMI cable?

Yes it can, and you will get sound out of your TV when it's connected this way. But with a receiver having no audio via HDMI capability, such as your Sony, you'll need an additional audio hook-up from Virgin box to receiver

Whilst the HDMI works whilst watching tv channels, if you listen to the radio channels which blank the tv, I find my sound keeps cutting out so I connected mine via the component (RGB) which solved the problem. Even when watching HD my Onkyo recognises and switches to Dolby Digital.

Connecting via component video stopped the sound over HDMI cutting out? Bizarre - don't doubt you're right for a moment, but have no idea why that should be.
