Do you use Blu Tac to secure your speakers?

Do you use a few blobs of Blu Tac to secure your standmounts into position? If so, why? Is it just to prevent them wandering around or do you think that in some way it actually improves the sound?

I did when I had stand mounts. If you just have them lying on the flat top plate and turn the volume up high, the speaker can move around on the stand. You can lose bass focus in that circumstance. Ultimately it could shake itself off.

blue tac..... use it for everything hifi...... under speakers use 10/12 very small blobs, much better than four big blobs. also found sainsburys granite work top saver with multiple small blobs works a treat under electronics. wonder stuff for hifi.!

So, in other words, if my speakers don't move around, shake, shimmy or rattle while they're in action (which they don't) then I shouldn't need to add blobs of blu Tac underneath? There will be no unforseen 'sound dividend' from using it?

I just ordered a pack (original Bostik) and I'll see if it does any better than my foam and silicon feet. It's cheap enough to try it.

It seems to prevent toddlers toppling the speakers and hold the speakers to the stands through major earthquakes so the only alternatives I'd consider would have to fasten the speakers even more securely.

Actually, one set of speakers just sit on the TV cabinet on their rubber feet, but I will add some blu tac to discourage my youngest from pushing them around.

I prefer these Atacama gel pads because they have enough 'stiction' to prevent the speakers moving around but require no care in removing them from the stands unlike Blutack which could rip off chunks of veneer if not careful.

Soundwise I doubt if there is any difference at all.

Thanks. The reason I ask about Blu Tac is that it gets mentioned every month in WHF magazine, in the 'index' section towards the back, where they list all the recommended standmount speakers. From memory, I am sure they recommend use of Blu Tac for both stability and sound performance reasons.

Self ahdesive Velcro pads between my living room surrounds and their stands. Doesn't stop the dog (110 lb Chesapeake Bay Retriever and nutty as a fruitcake) knocking over the stands, mind you...

In the past I've used Blutac, door draught excluder tape, chewing gum (nicotine gum is best - it's firmer), virtually anything that will give a cushion between the speakers and the stands.

Can't say whether or not it does anything for the sound.

I use Black Tac, it looks better esp. if you have black speakers and is stronger than Blu Tac. Not sure it improves the sound but at least the speakers are secure and its very cheap.

No.

With the stands came rubber stickers on which the monitors rest. As there are no kids or big, clumsy pets around, it is good for me. Stands don't vibrate while the monitors are doing their job.

been thinking how to secure the speakers so my youngest wont hurt himself accidentaly.. bought some vintage 40cm target audio stands and secure speakers to the stands using 3M dual lock tape.. 3 layers of tape at the front of the top plate to tilt the speakers a bit and it works wonderfull.

Quite rare in the UK but we met one a couple of years go. Fabulous temperament though could get a bit exuberent.

If your's is only 110lbs perhaps he/she is still growing?

I read an article on the TNT website where the author claimed that sound improvements could be made by sticking Blutac inside the casing and on the transport mechanism of the Marantz CD63, this apparently cuts down vibration & resonance.

Sounds a bit far fetched to me, any opinions from you guys?
