I have bought very recently a PIONEER SC-LX82 a/v amp, BDP-LX 52 bd player and MONITOR AUDIO BRONZE BR5 5.1 surround sound speaker package excluding the sub because unfortunately my budget was very tight, not only that but the salesman at the SEVENOAK'S SOUND & VISION a/v shop said that i really did not need one as my room which measure's exactly 4 x 4 meter's is according to him quite small, therefore i agreed. But then i spoke to someone else and they said that i made a big mistake and insisted that i buy the sub, because according to him the BR5 floorstander's will not be able to produce that deep down bass that is required when watching movie's and therefore i will be missing out on some serious bass & scale simply put the sub produce's more low frequency extension than the BR5's ever could but i did tell him that i was not too bothered about too much bass because of neighbor's but he still was adamant that i will not be doing my SC-LX82 any favor's because i will limiting it's abilities. So who is right the salesman of a reputable specialist a/v shop or my Friend ! also is my room which measure's 4x4 metre's really that small. Thank's

I would say that most systems would benefit from a sub, especially for home cinema. It will add to the extension and overall impact. However, as you state you are not that bothered about too much bass then I guess the sub is not really needed.

Are you unhappy with the sound?? Do you find it lacking in bass or scale?? If not then don't worry!

Every home cinema system will benefit with a sub for the lower registers. So, yes you do need a sub, hence the .1 in any speaker system.

The difference you hear will be significant.
