Do British TVs play in other European countries?

A very important question for me, please. Do TVs and DVD recorders bought in Britain work in other countries in Europe?

Yes the TV and DVD bought here will work together fine. However, whether the TV will receive broadcast TV really depends on the TV standard in use in the other country, given that there are various versions of the PAL system used in Europe. The UK uses PAL I, for example, and Germany PAL B/G, but most modern TVs are likely to be multistandard within PAL - you'd need to check the manual for this.

The basic difference between PAL standards tends to concern how sound is transmitted.

There's also the matter of differing digital TV systems, but this of course can be addressed with the addition of a set-top box in the new country.
