Would certainly recommend the Humax PVR9200TB

It's around £170 quid but it is an excellent piece of kit. My better half even considers it money well spent!

The key things to look for are

"Freeview Playback" compatability (a host of standardised requirements for PVRs including series record and split programme recording)

Twin tuners

A decent EPG (The humax one is the only one I know which continues to play the viewing channel (in a PiP style window) while you browse the EPG. Don't understimate how useful that is!

You really can't go wrong with the Humax even though it's a smidge over budget.

Agreed! I have the earlier PVR-8000T and it's been almost faultless for 3.5 years now. Have had to re-boot after power failures etc. is all and have never filled the 40GB HD

Seconded, thirded, or whatever we're up to now. The Hummy, as it's affectionately known as, is a great piece of kit.

Why are you ditching Sky?
Surely this will limit the amount of channels you watch/record.
