I’m sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m new to all this AV malarkey J I’m just in the process of setting up my first system, I have connected the Blu-Ray to AV amp with a HDMI cable, my question is, is there any benefit in connecting the digital output/input as well and if so is it best to use a normal cable or optical?

Many thanks

Mike

HDMI would be the way to go. You would gain nothing by using the optical or digi coax connections. Although multi-channel analogue is also an option but I would imagine that the DACS in the Arcam are pretty good

Edit - That's your first system? WOW! I could only dream of attaining such a system....

In fact, you cannot transmit HD sound formats via optical/co-axial. They should normally be sent via HDMI unless you have an older amp which cannot process such signals or a high-end player which processes them better. This is the multi-channel scenario described by d4v3pum4 above.
