I have read several threads about expensive digital cables sometimes giving better results than cheaper ones. Having recently visited the dCS website I noticed that the recommended digital connection between their Scarlatti transport and dac is firewire. I have visited the web sites of purveyors of high quality cables but have not come across this type of cable in their catalogues, although it is readily available from computer accessory sites. It seems that the makers of the £30k+ Scarlatti, arguably the best CDP available, trust their equipment to reach its full potential using a £5 digital cable.

I have read a bit on firewire and there do appear to be good reasosn as to why it should have been the digital cable of choice from the start. If, like Benchmark, dCS are staisfied their DAC can cope with any digital cable and indeed any digital source then both can become irrelevant. All a DAC needs is 1s and 0s and information about the timing of the 1s and 0s.
