My first post on whathifi so go easy...

I am looking for an Amp + Speaker setup (+ headphones) for my desktop at home. The details of the source are as follow:

Apple Lossless > iTunes > iMac > Toslink > DACMagic

I have looked into a few options already (based on whathifi reviews and web research):

Case A, Amp + Speakers: Rotel RA-04, NAD C325/6 and Marantz PM6002 paired with either the Dali Lektor 1, or B&W 685.

Case B, Active Speakers: Audio Engine A2, Audio Engine A5 and DynAudio MC15

There are a number of issues:

1. Cash: Limit to around £500 but ideally a bit cheaper

2. Environment: At current this lot will be located on my desk in a smallish room that rules out speaker stands, but this could (and is likely to) all change in a few months.

3. Upgrade Path: This is my first foray into HiFi (never before had the cash), and I will be looking to improve the set-up over time. So would prefer to be able to make incremental system evolutions rather than old-out-new-in revolutions.

4. Headphones: I am thinking about buying Grado SR60 cans, and would need a way of plugging them into the system that would get the best out of them (i.e. I'm guessing with some amplification and after the DACMagic).

If you can offer any advice whatsoever then I would be very grateful.
