Hi

I have a HDMI and Optical cable connecting my sky HD box to my 1909 so I can listen to Dolby digital audio broadcasts on HD channels. In the setup menu on the 1909 it says go into the menu on input mode and set it to digital which I have done and the Dolby sound can then be heard and seen on the facia. When I switch the quick select button on the 1909 remote to DVD and then switch back to TV on the remote my digital settings for the TV haven't been saved and playback is back in stereo again. I have spoke to Denon and they told me to take the AV receiver back to where I brought it as there is a fault. I took it back for an exchange and the new one is the same as the old. I dont think the 1909 has a fault can anyone put me out of my misery. Do I need to put more cables in or assign anything on the 1909 or is it a design fault.?.................cheers ..............dennis

The above is correct. You need to assign the HDMI port and the Optical ports that you are using, then you can leave the audio decoding to auto and it will automatically choose the dolby over stereo. It took me about a week to get everything perfect on mine but now I have every video input filled and everything working great I couldn't be happier.

Hi True Blue

Thanks for getting back to me. Do you mean go into the menu and select option 3 INPUT SETUP, then number 1 Assign HDMI IN which I have selected HDMI 2 and then DIGITAL IN which I have selected OPT 1. Back in the menu option I then select option 3 INPUT MODE and select INPUT MODE to DIGITAL which I have done. The Dolby then plays through the TV but then loses the memory when the quick select button is selected for DVD and have to input the above again. Hope this makes sense. Check these settings when you get home to see if I have done the same.............cheers

I too had this problem with my 1909. Essentially, the amp resets your settings everytime you use the quick select 1-3 buttons. To avoid this and retain your preferred audio settings do this:

- Set the amp up as required using the menus to select the optical input (sound) and hdmi (video) input from sky box

- Exit the set up menu - you should see the 5.1 lights lit up on the amp if viewing HD movie

- Press and hold the TV quick select button for 3 seconds until you see the amp register the new settings. These settings will now be stored. Flick between inputs (i.e dvd, sky, etc) and back to Sky to check your settings are retained.

The problem is that the amp comes preset with stereo sound on the TV quick select - doing the above stores your settings to the quick select preset. You can also set the start up volume, etc by doing the above.
