Would the extra £50 be worth it for the Yamaha over the Denon? I've found a 1910 for £300 and was about to buy it but saw the news story on the Yamaha price reduction, 3D is of no concern to me just purely quality of sound and build, both are 5 star products so I'm not to sure, I've had items from both of them before and was pleased with the quality from both so I've in bit of a pickle and got 400 notes burning a hole in my pocket.

Well the new Denon AVR-1911 sounds better than the AVR-1910, but in our opinion the Yamaha sounds better than them both. Try and hear before you buy - not to mention the also-priced-slashed Pioneer and the Award-winning Onkyo if you can fit all that auditioning in!

MatSt8,

I have listened to the 'infamous' trio - Onkyo TX-SR608, Denon AVR-1911 & Yamaha RX-V667.

The Onkyo would be my choice between the 3, but between the Denon & Yamaha, I would go for the Yamaha.

I was not the least bit impressed with the 1910. I think the Sony STR-DA2400ES is a better amp. So, it would definitely be the Yamaha for me.

I can't compare the 1911 to the 667, but I did demo the well regarded Yamaha RXV 3900, and a Yamaha 565.

The lower end Yamaha just didn't control the bass at all well. The 3900 did, but the bass was softer and without the same attack, and at 3 times the price of the Denon it didn't give enough in terms of extra detail to warrant the extra expense, at least with the speakers I demod with, (KEF 6005). The Yamaha had a nice natural sound, but a bit too laid back for me.

But in terms of the 1911 I've found it a nice amp, good detail, good bass control and texture, and good with music. The Pioneer 920 when I demod it again just didn't have the bass control or snap, though it seemed to decent and detailed higher frequencies.

But others often see it in different ways. To me a lot of it is down to the type of sound you like, and for me the Denon had no issues as such whereas the others did, but I like the Marantz / Denon type sound.

Hi Clare,

Is there really much of a sound improvement in the 1911 over the 1910? I almost sold my 1910 and bought a 1911 earlier in the year, but it was only to go from 1.3hdmi to 1.4 hdmi.. i thought it wouldnt be worth it.. there's a moratorium imposed on upgrades at the moment but thats interesting to note. Re the 1911 I seen it got mid priced receiver of the year on another blog i read from an audiophile who gets to audition some very serious kit (i dont think i can link to it here?).. so it must be pretty impressive.. i might look at picking up a 2310 or 3310 if i spotted one in good condition secondhand somewhere..

Cheers,

Mick

I read a post I think on here where someone had demod the 1911 and 2310 and couldn't tell the difference.

But that's someone else's ears, and can't remember the speakers they were doing it with.

Hi Clare,

Speaking only for the sound quality for HiFi playback (in stereo, or even pure direct mode) would Yamaha RX-V667still be better than Denon AVR-1911?
