Deinterlacing Again - Anyone????

Hi all, just about to get a Panasonic TH42PZ85B, but HDTV test says it doesnt film mode deinterlace very well if at all.

Sorry for being an idiot but this raises two questions

1: What is Film mode deinterlacing?

2: If I connect all my sources up to a Yamaha DSP AX863SE and then output this via HDMI to Panny will this deinterlace for me and hence the probem no longer exists?

Could someone please help with this???

You mean you didn't get a satisfactory answer from the source of the original review you quote?

Oh well...

In very simple terms. film mode deinterlacing is a process designed to compensate for the fact that movies are shot at 24 frames per second, whereas broadcast TV runs at 50 or 60Hz, depending on whether it's PAL or NTSC.

However, with Blu-ray players able to output 24fps progressive scan, and TVs capable of handling such an output, it's hardly a worry, and you'll have no problems in this respect with the TV you mention.

And the moral of the story is? Choose your reviews with care...
