Hi all,

I just wanted to know about peoples views on decoding in Blu-ray players and in an AV receiver, and i also have a few questions myself...I'm a bit new to all of this.

1) Say both, Blu-ray player and Av receiver, could decode all formats of sounds, DTS HD MA, Dolby true HD, etc. Would there be any difference in sound quality if either one decoded?

2) If there is a difference how would you know which, player or amp, would be the better decoder (or is the obvious way to just try it out)? for example I have a Denon 3311 and a sony BDP S760.. which one should do the decoding? Similarly If i had a Denon 3311 but a Pioneer BDP Lx 91 which one should do it?

What I'm trying to understand is that different priced blu-ray players produce different sound quality. But if the Av receiver were to remain the same would the quality change? Is it dependant on what equipment does the decoding?

Sorry if my questions seem pointless or if I have missed something=p As i have said, i'm fairly new to all of this.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated =)

1 - there shouldnt be. But my system definitely sounds better when the amp is doing the decoding

2 - mines quite obvious with certain material. It just sounds more dynamic and real sounding

The difference will probably be jitter related. The less the jitter, the less the errors
