Dead Speakers

Hi

During the course of a party my system suddenly stopped working - no sound whatsoever from either speaker (Gale gold monitors)

I presumed that my old Sherwood amp had fianally given up after many years service so took the opportunity to replace it with a new Onkyo 9010. Having set up the new amp - you guessed it both speakers still totally dead - not a hum buzz or crackle. I have checked that I am geting inputs from both CD and SB touch and I am as I can get music from headphones attached to amp - but zilch from speakers when headphones removed. I have checked speakers connections endlessly and still nothing.

Is it possible that both speakers would have given up completely at the same time - or that both amps have exactly the same problem ? seems unlikely. The Onkyo does not have any a+b speaker settings or anything similar that ae often the culprit

Any thoughts welcome before I try soem diggerent speakers

party strikes again,it sound like they are dead, can you get a lend of speakers to check, are the speaker cables definitly ok,can you try another speaker cable.

Maybe there is a fault with the speakers, and they trip the output circuits on both amplifiers, but leave the headphone amp working. Try another pair of speakers, to narrow things down a bit.

You seem to be a fellow fan of North Devon photographer James Ravilious and the late John Martyn, so you must be an excellent chap and I wish you well with your speakers. Sadly it seems you might need to replace them but Richer Sounds do the Mordaunt Short M10 (look very similar) for £50 if you end up needing replacements. (6 year guarantee too).

You have blown them up, simple.

Buy some new speakers.

Next time you have a party, hire some DJ gear.
