My current system is Dali Opticon 6 Mk 1 with Arcam SA45 anp and Arcam CD5 CD player.

I've been curious what the next step up would sound like, so today I had a home demo of Dali Rubikore 6 and Spendor D7.2

The demo confirmed to me that I prefer the Dali presentation over Spendor, but what surprised me is what little difference I could hear between the Opticon and Rybikore.

Before the demo, I played some tracks on the Opticon to remind myself how they sound, and played the same tracks on the Rubikore. I would say the Rybikore's have a little more weight to the music, a touch more presence, but it was subtle.

Just wondered if others have compared the two. I'd be interested to know what others thought.

I nearly bought the Rubikore 6 which was being offered to me at a brilliant discount.
I bottled it in favour of the AlChris Audio TX9 instead.
The Dali are an exceptional speaker, a beautiful product, but they do colour the music a touch I found.
Placement is also critical.
Did you mess about with alternative placement during your demo?

I didn't experiment with placement to be honest. My listening room is small and I'm rellatively restricted on placement, but my main goal was to hear the difference between the Ribikores and the Opticons I have, so I kept them at the same placement and used the same 4-5 tracks.

What you say about Dali colouring the sound is spot on. In comparison, I found the Spendors more 'straight laced', for want of a better phrase. They were great, but I found the Dali a more engaging / fun listen.

What I can't decide now is whether to upgrade to the Rubikore . If I do I would also upgrade my centre and rears as I listen to multichannel music, though the demo was strictly focused on 2 channel.

the Rubikore will be a better speaker in terms of finish and internal cross over I suspect.
And arguably are a bit of furniture and look nice.
are you getting a discount ? I was offered them around £3600ish from memory

Yeah I think they would look nice. No discounts unfortunately. I think it’s £4274. In total it would cost me a hefty £8400, with replacing the centres and rears, plus delivery, installation and some Drac calibration with my SA45, but I’ve just sold some previous gear and would sell the Opticon set up, so that would offset it a bit.

I’m tempted!

If you're considering the Rubikore 6 and you mentioned multi-channel, have you had a look at their cinema referenced version? Perhaps you can have one of those for the centre or disregard the R6 all together and install three of these, left right and centre and possibly SVS or a REL for the SW?
Food for thought 🙂

Not really but I went from the Dali Evidence 470 to Rubicon 6, and while I'd had the 470's for 20 years the improvements were spectacular, took me 48 hours to order the vokal and a few weeks later the LCR's as sides. I'd recommend the LCR rather than the 2's as surrounds so you'll get the same ribbon/tweeter/woofer as in your front three.

I'm sure if you buy the full set in person from a dealer they'll help you out on the price.

Interesting idea, thanks.

It's not something I've considered as although I have multichannel, my focus is on music and I've never thought of using a centre speaker for other channels.

Interesting, thanks. I hadn't considered the LCR as I assumed it was just a wall mounted speakers whereas I have stands for the rears.

I may be able to negotiate on price if I ask I guess. The quote is from Audio T. I usually use Richer Sounds and they usually give me a discount, but unfortunately they are not stocking the Rubikores at present.

With the Rubicon LCR its 100mm clear space underneath them wall mounted or 30mm away from the wall if on shelves or stands I'm assuming it'll be similar for the cores .
