Oops that clearly didn't work
I was one of the lucky ones (only six of us went) to get an invite to the hallowed home of WHF yesterday evening for a demo of the new DALI Kubik Free and their Epicon stand mount speaker
The Kubik Free is an interesting piece of kit, an active speaker with the possibility to slave a second speaker off of it to give full stereo. DALI seemed to have thought through their options very well for a two speaker set up as the user can decide whether the Master Acive speaker is on the LH channel or the RH channel via selector switch
Input is via BlueTooth (APTX), optical or 3.5mm jack, the unit also charges an iThing via USB but does not have an iThing dock
Stereo imaging is very good and with surprising depth for such a device, detailed with reasonable bass for such a unit, a little breathy at the top end, but this maybe a result of lack of run time, overall impressed, as a single stand alone unit it also works very well, head and shoulders above most I have heard (not that bthat is many)
The stand mount Epicon was next up, located in the stereo listening room at WHF, now this is a speaker and some, yes maybe nearly 4 grand but wow what a sound, I didn't pay much attention to the front end, I think it was all NAIM with a Bryston power amp, fabulously engaging, wonderful mid range, excellent bass and a tantalisingly clear top end.
We listended to just about every style from drum and bass, Oscar Peterson Trio, Paul Simon LIve (Bridge Over Troubled Water) Diamonds on the Souls of Her shoes from the Grace Land album, Kate Bush (excells with female vocal) and many others, definitely recommended for a listen if you have the cash
Thanks to all at WHF and DALI for an excellent evening, even had a chance to catch up with Simon Lucas again......................all good stuff
Thanks
