I have a DacMagic (V2 I believe) that ive had a few years now. Ive enjoyed it immensely and it works great in my setup (Cambridge Audio Azur Amp, Tannoy F1 Custom speakers, Various other bits, Foobar with WASAPI plugin). My only annoyance is that its limited to 48KHZ for USB, which is no good for high definition audio.

I am considering a Dacmagic 100, as I dont need the features of the plus, and frankly £350 is just too much for me.

My question is, is the DM100 considered an upgrade in terms of sound quality over the older Dacmagic? I really enjoy the sound of the older one, and if Im going to shell out the cash for the DM100, it has to at least be equal to that in terms of quality, prefferably a slight improvement.

I know it doesnt have the filters that the classic model has, but in the few years I've had it, Im not sure I've switched the filter more than once or twice

Possibly, but do you really need to convert hi-res files? Unless it's been remixed and mastered before resampling, then you may or may not hear any benefit. It's certainly not night and day, whatever you've read. If you find that hi-res is simply a waste of memory space (and that's my own personal conclusion based on several HD tracks albums compared to ripped CD versions played though the same system), then I'd be amazed if you can hear much of a difference between DACs, they are possibly the least effective bang for your buck in a domestic system.
