Hi

I currently have a Samsung UE46D80000 with only an optical output for sound, connected via a small DAC (cost £50 approx) to provide an an anlogue output for one of two Sonos Connect amps in my kitchen, connected to B&W ceilng speakers. This is an attempt to improve the sound from the existing TV speaker and to make the sound available throughout my Sonos units. The DAC was supplied and installed by the retailer when I purchased the TV a couple of years ago. Frankly the sound is very very diasappointing with this arrangement, so much so that I never use the feature, I should add that this is a freeview signal, not from DVD.

Is it the Freeview sound capability that is poor or can I use a better DAC to get an acceptable sound through the analogue Sonos input?

Would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks

Chris

Well I don't think its the Freeview sound as I have the optical out from my PVR connected to my Yamaha AV amp to do the decoding and then into my hi-fi amp to drive the front two speakers. The quality is excellent. So that leaves the DAC amp and speakers. If I were you, I'd try and borrow/trial a proper AV amp to replace both DAC and amp and see how that sounded. If I had some larger speakers I'd also connect these up to the existing system to see if the speakers are the limiting factor.
