Hi,

i would like to play the sound from a TV through my 2 channel amp. The TV has a digital out and my DAC has a digital input yet I can't get any sound through the hifi- nothing. I have tried playing with settings to no avail.

Can anyone recommend a DAC that will definately handle whatever signal the TV is giving out and provide decent 2 channel performance from a PC as well?

the TV is a Panasonic Viera TXL42EBB.

the amp is working, the TV is working so I presume that my soundcard DAC powered by USB is not up to the job.

Thanks for any help and apologies if this should be in the TV forum.

Just checking it might be an idea to play around with the sound settings in the options menu on the panny. Make sure it's not set to DTS out. Perhaps try PCM out instead of auto. You may be able yo get it to send a signal your present dac can understand

In my case, it was in my TViX where I had to change this setting—I don't think my TV has such configuration, and it's also a Panasonic, but your model may.

Anyways, the TViX was sending the audio just as it was encoded in the movie, and the TV was just bypassing it and sending it to my Q Acoustics BT3 which have an internal DAC—but that doesn't seem to understand formats such as DTS and AAC. Having the TViX convert the audio to PCM resolved this.

Finally the penny drops! My DAC is only for using with a computer - it has driver software. It won't work with the TV as the TV does not have the driver software installed. Anyway, my second brainwave of the night was to connect the TV to my old Sony minidisc player and connect that to the amp. Use the minidisc an a DAC. Hey presto!

thanks all.
