I am a product design student and have been looking at getting a new set up for my mac, but the issue i have is that there are hardly and decent looking and sounding products for computers available on the market. So i have reluctantly decided to go for a beresford TC520 DAC to use with my Grados with the view of modifying the appearance! and as there are no decent looking and sounding computer speakers i have decided to go for either the scandyna micropod speakers see here or the audio engine A2 see here.

But i just want to check that i havnt missed anything that would be a better alternative

Speaker budget is really only up to about £150 and and they would have to be active

the A2 are about as good as you will get for that price. I have been very happy with mine up until I have replaced them with a pair of non active speakers MS MEzzo 2's

Lars and Ivan do some pretty stylish, sonically highly rated and not very expensive kit that often works with PCs. Would some of their kit fit in with what you have in mind? This is the Bobo BK-21......................

I did have a look at the lars and ivan stuff, but i have never been a fan of glass or acrylic speakers.

How do you power the mezzos, do you just use a standard amp or a desktop one.

Can you even get mini amps for the computer

The Mezzos will work with any amp. As for mini amps for the computer have a look at the Russ Andrews site and go to equipment and in the drop down box have a look at the RAVE and Russ Andrews desk top range. Stylish if you like small black boxes!
