Could people with the Dark Knight on Blu-ray check something for me?

At the very start of chapter 9, as the camera passes the building on the left, and just before the helicopter comes into shot there seems to be a bit of flicker in the background, especially over the harbour area.

Does anyone else experience this? It's the only time in the film I notice it!

I've got a couple of spare HDMI cables so I'll try swapping over tonight to see if that helps.

Not sure about that particular scene (will have to watch it again when I can) but one shot that sticks in my mind is the long shot of Batman and Lau being whisked towards the screen by the helicopter at the end of the Hong Kong sequence. That shot always looks pretty shaky and unstable for some reason whenever I watch it.

Is your telly HD Ready or Full HD?

Mine is HD Ready, and I have my equipment set to 720p rather than 1080i.

I was just thinking about that at lunchtime........

My set is 720p (well, 768 really

) but I send in a 1080p signal. I'll adjust the BD player to output a 720p signal and see if that has any effect.

Hi,

So you believe that setting HD Ready TV to 720p gives better pq than 1080i? I haven't tried it myself but will try it tonight, left mine on 1080i, same as Sky HD setting up till now.

Progressive should give smoother motion than interlaced, but 1080 lines should give more detail than 720 lines.

I guess it's just a matter of preference. You may find that certain movies look better in one mode than the other. Overall I prefer my movies in 720p.

I think I may have discovered where the flicker is coming from.

The particular scene in question is obviously shot from a helicopter, and judging where the sun is (by the shadows on the ground) the flicker may well be caused by shadows from the rotor blades of the chopper.

Seems like you sorted it, but just watched mine full HD LCD playing on a Panasonic BD-35 and was rock solid, only thing that I don't like is the ratio change going when moving out of IMAX scenes, which by the way look amazing.

I posted a similar thread late last year (the Dark Knight is not quite right) and gave details of about four instances of pulsatings and flickerings . Never got to the bottom of the problem ; nice to hear that someone else can see it though.
