im using my marantz pm6003 through my yam av receiver , but unlike my previous nad amp , i have to turn the 6003s volume up full to get the required oomph for movies through my fronts , my worry is if i forget to turn the volume down after watching a movie , and switch the output on the marantz to cd , could i blow the speakers if i spin a cd ??

Yes it could, as you're likely to be getting pure distortion through the speakers. Turn up the front L/R level on your receiver's settings and then you won't have to run the Marantz so hard.

cheers andrew i didnt think of that , just set the fronts to full , and yes your right , ive managed to keep similar volume levels even with the marantz at the 1pm position as opposed to 5... ...

Well, there y'go then. And if you back the other channels down a bit and then redo the calibration, you should be able to get that Marantz volume down to 12 o'clock or so...

no i tried that first off , calibrating with the marantz at 12 , as that worked perfect with the nad , but the fronts still didnt give me enough , but i will tinker with it a bit , at least i now know that i should be able to find the right balance without having the 6003 whacked to full ..

thanks.....

for most music 9-10 o,clock is more than enough ...

Not really in to movies but play them through my hi-fi when I do. Don't get much past 8 o'clock with them as they're just so much louder.

Hence my suggestion to back off on the centre, rear and sub channels, and use a bit more of the gain on the AV amp.

and if i played some cds on the nad with the volume at the same point on the dial as i can with the marantz it would be way too loud ..

the nads 50w per channel may have been a little conservative methinks ..
