Could 8K TVs be banned?

It’s all very well things like this going ahead in the EU, but the EU is tiny compared to the global population, which will still be able to buy leccy guzzling products. This sort of thing needs to be aimed at countries with large populations for it to provide any real benefit, so the likes of China and the US for starters - I’m guessing the US must be one of the worst countries for electricity consumption.

The only way this might be of a worldwide benefit is if the TVs provided worldwide are the ones that manufacturers develop for Europe - but will they bother doing that? Will they just stifle the TV’s brightness capabilities on the EU models until they’re forced to make a change globally?

Makes you wonder how close the likes of the EU are to looking at valve amplifiers and the like.
