Someone help.

I have a Panasonic BD60 and a Panasonic SA PT 870 home cinema system. I have connected the blu ray player to the home cinema using a digital optical lead. I cannot get sound when watching blu ray. Can someone tell me what settings I need to achieve optimum sound? Or is there a better way of connecting it? My TV does not have a digital optical out. I appreciate that I may not get Digital Master HD sound, at the very least I was hoping for digital surround though

Nick, what way does the system operate? Does your sub double up as the amp, or do your speaker cables go into the DVD player itself?

the speaker cables go into the back of the DVD player/home cinema. The sound is great when playing DVD's through the home cinema but I can't get anything when playing a blu ray through the blu ray player. What should I do (other than take one or both units back and get something better!!!)

Mate, its not gonna work. You're best off keeping the BD60, and doing it properly with separates. A classic case of an all in one nightmare. How much did you spend on the Panasonic? I'll try and point you in the right direction

That sucks! Can I not get any sound at all connected this way? Panasonic have screwed me then cos they said it could be done (although didn't go into how other than connect them in this manner).

No cuz the Dvd player acts as the amplifier. How are you connecting the blu ray player to the system? Via optical out of the blu ray into the optical in on the dvd deck?

extra £50......

Its basically an all in one system, using separates. It'll decode the new lossless codecs, HDMI 1.4 enabled, so no need for optical cables, unless using sky HD, and an absolute doddle to set up. HDMI's in from sources, 1 out amp to TV. Plenty of connectivity for future items too, something all in one systems lack. Even the £600 ones.

they'll try and flog you an all in one blu ray system. The panasonic ones are quite good, but still lack the connectivity and are generally bad value for money. Do not buy a panasonic receiver!!

Sorry, but I see no reason why you can't get any sound from your system when you connect the BD60 to your setup via optical (otherwise what would be the point in having an optical input?)

First things first, have you been through the 'Setup' menus on the BD60? Under 'Sound' and 'Digital Audio Output', try changing between 'Bitstream' and 'PCM' to see if that makes any difference. Also, under 'TV/Device Connection', and 'HDMI Connection', turn 'HDMI Audio Mode' to 'Off'.

Granted, you will only get lossy surround sound this way, but it should definitely be possible. To suggest otherwise without even investigating is just misleading...

A friend of mine already tried this and it didn't work. Sending sound from a blu ray player to a dvd player....

I can see what you're saying. The optical input worked for sending a signal out of his samsung LED mind
