Hi all this is my first post, hopefully somebody can help me out. I have a tvonics freeview and Sony dav-dz111 dvd home theatre hooked up to my Toshiba crt. I have recently upgraded my scarts with a video only rgb running form the dvd player to my set. For audio thru my dvd surround while watching freeview I've used an audio mini jack to phono splitter, as I have no digi input. While watching films I can hear a water like affect over dialogue in the side and rear surround speakers, some are worse than others. To be fair unless your ear is next to the speaker it's not that noticeable from were I sit for the most part, but still it's there and annoying none the less.

I wonder if anyone can tell more about this kind of problem, and perhaps recommend the right mini jack to phono?

Do you not have a phono out on the freeview box? Or maybe on the telly? Sounds like it might be that the output on the minijack is not high enough and the "water" you hear is the hiss from the amp being turned up higher to compensate... just a thought. Try and do phono from freeview to the amp, or failing that, SCART (with audio) from freeview to telly and phono out on telly to amp.

hi mate, I have the tvionics freeview with hard drive and I use the small jack in on the back with a 'Toslink to 3.5mm jack converter. Plug a optical lead into this and then run it to the back of your sony reciever.

I did the same with my marantz and it works a treat.

Thanks for getting back in touch guys. I have the 250 gb tvonics box, the fp I think they call it. I've tried a toslink adapter on my sony optical lead to the audio in on the front of my player, but no joy The only audio in on the back is phono so I've used a mini jack to phono splitter. My dvd player is one that came out before the current players with digi inputs and hdmi :(

Come to think of it I do remember when I had a qed full scart, I first noticed the water effect. Makes me wonder if there is some kind of overpowering when I try freeview on surround. Maybe an attenuated phono might solve the problem, Ive heard attenuated interconnects for hi-fi can solve overloading
