Connecting a Wii to a Yamaha RXV 1065?

Hi

We're thinking of getting a Wii for Xmas - can I take audio and video out into my Yamaha RXV 1065 ? I really don't want to have to run a cable directly to the TV.

What connections does a Wii use? HDMI ?

Thanks

Yes you can, I have a Wii connected into my Onkyo 875. All my video goes to the TV via HDMI.

The wii has component outs - left channel, right channel and video.

It also has a sensor bar that picks up the wireless remotes, which connects to the Wii with a thin wire. This needs to be placed under or above the TV.

Thanks - are the games in surround sound or just stereo?

Sorry to sound thick but after 4 decades on this planet this'll be the first ever games console...

Stereo. With L & R connections, that is all that is possible. If you want a hi def multi channel experience buy the PS3, but the Wii is great fun and more aimed at casual gamers. The wireless remote is particularly good.

I think the use of component there is slightly confusing: as I said, the unit has left/right analogue audio and composite video as standard, but you can buy an accessory cable giving left/right audio and component video.

Unless it has already been done on your 1065, the firmware update that Yamaha released that fixed the SkyHD issue also made it possible to assign a component video input to an analogue audio input. As far as I know this was done with Wii users in mind

Are you sure about the assignable digital imput upgrade? I though Yamaha delayed all units to retailers so upgrade coild be performed (i wanted to audition one but opted for the marantz 6003 instead).

If you require the firmware update email Yamaha CS, they email update, you install via USB
