I have a Panasonic TH-42 PW5 ( about 7 years old) currently connected to a virgin media digital box which sends the signal through some sort of upgrade box that i bought at the same time into the p.c. input on the screen ,this is an improvement over utilising the a.v. input coming from my old sony strb 1080 a.v. receiver. But i was wondering if after 7 years there was something out there that could improve the quality of the picture , I am still happy with the quality of the picture when playing d.v.d`s through the component connections . Any suggestions would be most welcome.

With 3 teenage kids & a wife, budget? what budget, Seriously i am reasonably happy with the set especially with d.v.d. i was just wondering if i was able to improve the picture coming from the virgin media box by any means possible. I would be willing to spend a few hundred quid. Thanks.

Do you have a standard Virgin box? If so you could consider the V+ box as this has a HDMI connection and I find that this box gives me really good pictures.

I would still suggest loking into a new TV though. I guess it depends on how many 'few hundred quid' you have available. It should also give you a better picture on all of your sources and change you from 'reasonably happy' to 'really happy'.

Any particular reason why you only want to sort out the Virgin picture further?? I am not sure of any products that would give you greater benefit than a new TV. Maybe others are aware of a product for you.......

I am not sure exactly what you are using at the moment but I have exactly the same screen as you even tho it now resides in my bedroom but will tell you how I have it hooked up.

I have Sky not Virgin but I to use the VGA input with one of these http://www.keene.co.uk/electronics/words.php?mycode=SCART+TO+vga&type=all these allow you to send a RGB signal to the VGA input and offer a clear, sharp and detailed image (transmission quality dependant).

I just wise todays screens were made to as high a quality as the old Panasonic sets, just a shame it never had a scart input

Thanks for your help. I have no speakers with my screen and run a connection from the scart to VGA connector box to my A.V. receiver for the sound and then to my sony surround speakers. I can only assume that the connector you recommended carries picture and sound and therefore is not suitable for my needs , am i correct. And yes the high quality of the sceen was one of the factors that attracted me to it way back then.

If i upgraded to a virgin V+ H.D. BOX would it give me any benefits bearing in mind the age of the sceen and the connections available on the sceen i.e.lack of H.D.input

Many Thanks.

The cable I mentioned and use carries picture only as I too like you do not use the screen for sound and use a external amp.

As to using a Virgin HD box I personally could not see any bnifits from doing so due to the connections on the PW5 and its inability to accept either a 720p or a 1080i signal via its component input (not even sure if the V+HD box has component
