As I have mentioned in a previous post over av stands, I am hoping to purchase the Panasonic TH-37PX80B TV.

I am wanting to connect my Pioneer DV-575A DVD player using component video and use it in progressive scan mode rather than the scart I currently use on my CRT.

I am confused as to whether this is going to work as the DVD instructions say:

"This player is compatible with progressive video Macro Vision System Copy Guard.
Consumers should note that not all highdefinition television sets are fully compatible with this product and may cause artifacts to be displayed in the picture. In case of 525 progressive scan picture problems, it is recommended that the user switch the connection to the ‘standard definition’ output (Interlace)."

and the TV says it supports the following using component:

"525 (480) / 60i
525 (480) / 60p
625 (576) / 50i
625 (576) / 50p
750 (720) / 60p
750 (720) / 50p
1,125 (1,080) / 60i
1,125 (1,080) / 50i"

Am I OK to use Component Video and is this best option for me as my DVD player does not have a HDMI?

Thanks, Mark

In general, component is a better output than SCART. It supports 720p output, which will be fine for the PX80.

I also have the 37PX80B and you will be well chuffed with the progressive component output picture from DVD .I now put it through my Onkyo but it is still 720p.I continue to be astonished at the picture difference from my previous TV-which was very advanced at the time (4 yrs ago)

Do not ask which is the best cable to buy-world war 26 will break out.

Thanks for the replies.

I will be ordering the TV tomorow along with a Component cable.

I have seen a 1m QED Qunex P-CV1 component cable for less than £25 so I think this would be a good choice.
