I have yet to use any headphones with my iPhone or iPad Mini. (Morbid fear of forgetting I have them on and dragging expensive tech onto floor by the cable when I stand up.)

I have Sennheiser PX-100 Mk IIs already but see 'morbid fear' bit above for why I don't use them. (I only use them on an iMac which isn't easy to drag onto floor accidently.)

So Bluetooth headphones would seem to be the answer.

Would like something around same size and quality as PX100s but without cable.

Not for ultimate quality or mega 'bass slam' or loud volumes (I don't 'do' loud with things that close to my ears) but would like them to be clear.

Open design preferred (I would never have them loud enough to bother anyone and I still want to be aware of what's going on around me).

For sedate sitting down use only (not for jogging, or cycling, or jumping off tall buildings, or even for walking around) but they need to be reasonably compact on-ear designs. (I freak at the idea of things in my ear.)

Thanks.

Hi Chebby. If you like Sennhesier and want blueooth headphones then the obvious answer would be the MM 100. They are a little more expensive than the PX 100's and are not open, but the sound quality is great, and beacuse they are on ear you still get good awareness of what is going on around you. Sound wise they are pretty punchy without being as open as the PX 100's. They have a neckband so are not going to fall off your ears when you sit up and as with all Sennhesier headphones they have a 2 years warranty. Details here http://en-de.sennheiser.com/bluetooth-stereo-headset-mm-100

Thanks. PX100 IIs are £29.99 in John Lewis and MM 100s appear to be around £100 (and virtually unobtainable from what I can see). That's a lot more expensive. Are they discontinued?

£199 though! That's almost as much as the iPad Mini itself.

I guess you guys have lot more money to spend on these things than I do.

Senn PX 100 Mk IIs cost £29.99. That's the sort of quality I want. (But wireless.)

I know I need to pay a premium for wireless but that Bose is too rich for my wallet.

Just bought a pair of Philips SHB4000s for £36.49 from the local branch of Currys Digital (normal price £49.99) and I am sitting here in a coffee shop next door testing them with stuff from BBC iPlayer Radio on my iPad Mini.

Light, very comfy fit and sounds very good. No distortion or any other nasties and perfect for what I need.

[Update] Really enjoying the freedom of these excellent (for the price) Bluetooth headphones. As I have mentioned before, I listen to a lot of BBC Radio contect (real-time and iPlayer) and BBC podcasts and I no longer have to be 'tethered' by a 1m headphone cable and carry the phone or tablet when I am moving around the house / office / coffee shop or wherever.

(No fear of forgetting headphones are on when standing up and accidently pulling an expensive iThing onto the floor either!)

This is all true of any Bluetooth headphones of course. But the Philips have got an unexpectedly good sound for £49.99 (let alone what I paid) and are very light and comfortable as well fitting perfectly in my Billingham bag in the space behind the iPad.

I haven't listened to music on them yet and I don't do loud volumes (especially on anything so close to my ears!) but I've listened to quite a few programmes with some incidental music content and it comes over clear and undistorted and sounding very pleasant when it does happen.

Also cheap enough - and sturdy enough - not to have to get too 'precious' about their welfare.

Battery life not an issue yet. They were already charged when I bought them 3 days ago and I have used them a lot with no sign of any loss of charge yet. (Sorry, I haven't kept exact count of my usage but it's got to be well over 6 hours so far.)

Hi chebby,

good that you manage to find the suitable headphone for your need. Your query here is actually now featured in the Nov issue of the mag. And it was suggested for you to purchase a Senn MM400X.... What do you think?

The Sennheisers you mentioned are £180 and so well out of the budget I had allowed. I am sure they are very nice though. (5 stars etc.)
