Question Compact 2.0 / 2.1 speakers?

I'm looking for an alternative to PC speakers. Since it's a small room setup (~9 sq. m), I badly need active 2.1 setup, but let's say that a sub already exists. What can you recommend according to these requirements?

• Price - less than ~400 € / $
• SPDIF connector
• Sub-out connector
• White or grey color
• Not too large, if possible
• Remote - optional, but would be appreciated
• Best possible audio quality in that price range

For now, there's only one match - Ruark Audio MR1 MKII, but maybe you could recommend alternatives? I also considered S.M.S.L. AD18 amp + passive speakers, but this raises the price / takes away more space, and I'm not sure if I get significantly better audio quality, given the price range.

P.S. I'm aware of the existence of KEF LSX - they are beyond amazing and don't need a sub, but their cost is more than twice of what I'm willing to spend.
