Clicking Samsung

Hello to you all,

after reading the awards mag back in October i took the plunge and bought the Samsung UE46B8000.

Everything was fine initially but it has now developed a clicking and ticking noise that last for about one hour after switching on from cold. It comes approximately every 20 or 30 seconds. Its as if the internals or casing are expanding due to the heat.

It really annoys me and i find myself ignoring the programmes and listening for the next click.

Is this something that could be sorted out under the guarantee as after paying £2100 i expect it to be right.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks Andy

All TVs generate some heat, plasmas lots of heat, and LED LCDs less so. Assuming it's a physical thing - ie coming from the casework, not the speakers - I'd say it's nothing to worry about.

Hi there!

If this clicking becomes worse and the TV set takes longer and longer to start up from power off, then it's a well known problem with the power supply units on some models.
The capacitors used on some Samsung PSUs are under specified by 2 volts, in other words not quite up to the job unfortunately.
It's a simple repair that costs about £4 in spare parts that takes about 20 minutes all told.

However if your startup times remain fast and the clicking remains, it probably is down to what Mr.E suggested although I haven't come across that problem, yet have repaired several Samsungs here at work with the PSU bug . . . .

As the set is still under warranty I would return it.

Indeed, it's not a problem if it's only coming from the casework. If it's an internal problem then it is worth looking into, and thanks for the diagnosis Tonya.
