Very good reviews but does anyone know if the DAC is switchable as I'll be using my Cyrus CD8SE as a source? If it isn't can someone recommend something similar quality (preferable cheaper) without a DAC? I thank you. [

I got a response from Chord today, as below:
Hi Graham,
The Toucan only uses the in built DAC when using the USB input. If you use the RCA input then this is bypassed and you have a pure analogue connection.
We don't recommend any particular brand of headphones and to be honest this is where the retailer will be able to give a better recommendation. We currently use Sennheiser and AKG here for testing.

I'm considering buying the chordette toucan. I don't live in the uk and where i live chord electronics does not have a dealer, so all i can go by are the reviews available on the web to tell me about the performance of the product. The only review I've come across so far is from what hi-fi and they gave it a 5* rating, but i came across a few forums which say that the sound is overly bright & bass light.
Is this true?
I will be using it with my sennheiser hd650 and the audio source will be my pc.
My requirements are; exciting listen; great detailing; well balanced; Bass should be sure-footed and punchy, treble crisp and confident, while the midrange should be sweet, music should be cohesive and packed with life and punch.

I downgraded massively so can't give you any idea vkushwaha, but someone on here might on the offchance they have this (expensive) piece of kit.....
Still, it got a 5* award here.
My own view is spend less to get more value for money. I've a Fiio E10 and for £50 it is fantastic and can do 24 bit/96 khz. Try some DAC/amps if you can?
