Child safe cabinets?

I'm installing a new system and putting my TV on the wall.I will need some sort of cabinet to house (at least) 4 components; amplifier, freesat HD pvr, blu ray player, dvd recorder. It needs to be child friendly. I really don't want those sticky paws inside the DVD drawer! I would prefer a wood effect, maybe oak.

Any ideas?

If I were you, I'd make something, or find a carpenter dude and get him on the case.

You can buy any cabinet you like and then get some of those kitchen-cabinet-child-safety-thingies.

The thingies I mean are plastic hook type things that you specifically need to know how to unhook, if you don't know how to the cabinet door will only open a little.

I sympathise - one of my was a little devil and into everything. I had to barricade the TV when he was a toddler! Just be careful that you don't cause problems by shutting in all the heat. Certain receivers are known for their hot/cool running. It would be worth checking.

There are quite a few oak Hi-Fi cabinets around do a google search and look st some specialist furniture retailers, I would recommend you get a glass door on the front or you will need a remote extender, and on my cabinet I have ended leaving the back panel off to prevent heat build up, this is a big consideration.

I used Kuban for my cabinet which is exactly how you'd like yours to be from your description. I saw a cabinet I liked on their website and they redesigned it to my specification and requirements. It's in an oak veneer with real oak doors that have glass inlays so the remotes will still work without having to open the doors. The catches on the doors sit flush to the surface and require a good hard push to release the doors so are small child proof.

There's enough room inside for all the kit plus games consoles and they're not crammed in so enough air will circulate. The shelves are movable and are slotted for extra air circulation.

I was a little nervous about ordering so expensive without seeing it but they sent me all drawings and visualizations by email so I was pretty confident about how the cabinet would turn out.

Overall I'm really pleased but I'll warn you, it ain't cheap. The cost of the cabinet was just a little more than I paid for my Panny 42" plasma but I see it as an investment as it's so well constructed it will probably outlast several TV's.

There are numerous places where you can buy a <a href="http://www.funique.co.uk/living-room-furniture/tv-stands.html">tv stands</a>. Deciding where it's best to buy, however, depends on you.

Convince the child that the hi-fi/AV is protected by a giant, invisible, carnivorous, child hating spider that lives behind the system. They are pretty gullible when very young.
