Changing format for ipod

Im now about to convert all my lossless files to fit on my ipod i had a quick look on the internet but couldnt find much i obviously want to compress it to a level that will fit on my ipod but still at the best possible sound quality! If someone could give me a rough guide say what 1gb of lossless will be compressed to at the higher mp3 bit rates. Thanks.

Lossless formats typically are 3 times bigger than 320k, and a bit more at 256k.

I'm doing exactly that right now, and manicm is spot on - AAC 320kbps is pretty much dead on 1/3 the size of the Apple Lossless file.
