Ok so i currently have the SCM11's set up at home and they sound even more incredible here than they did in the demo room. I've been offered them at £800 brand new, almost too good to pass up really.

Hopefully i should make around £600 for the 684's as they are brand new and haven't even opened the box that contains their plinths, anyone got any ideas as to where to sell them? Ebay is the obvious choice but item's seam to go for less if your not willing to post them. I wouldn't like to imagine how much it would cost to ship these beasts.

Ebay is your best bet simply because of size of audience. If the gross weight is under 30Kg then you can ship with royal mail parcels for £10.50 I think it is, certainly around that price, as it's a special ebay rate. You have to set it up by printing a shipping label etc which I only recently discovered.

If you are worried about not getting the right price simply add a minimum reserve price to your auction, you are not obliged to complete the sale if the reserve is not met. It will cost extra to your insertion fees but worth it for high value nearly new items. The sting with ebay though is the high final valuation fee set at 5%.

And not forgetting PayPal's charge - effectively Ebay double dipping.

the record spot:And not forgetting PayPal's charge - effectively Ebay double dipping.

Yes forgot about that too. OT but ebay / paypal fees are outrageous, they can't explain themselves why the FVF is capped at a ludicrous £40. Even more annoying for some items you cannot charge P&P. OK it's to stop profiteering and illegal ticket sales etc, but why should you be forced to sell a laptop backpack as free P&P. They (ebay) couldn't explain it either and all I got was a shrug of the shoulders....It's all become rather draconian.

JoelSim:I'd go for the Neats. Nice speakers.

Indeed the Neats are very nice speakers. Which modal are you referring too,The Elite SE or the Motive's? I personally find the Elite much nicer to listen to than the Motives.

Selling on Ebay seams like a bit of a stress, might try advertising locally first.

The Elites

Yup the Elites are really nice. Certainly the best hi-fi speaker i have ever heard and they really seamed to work well with the Kandy. Hopefully will be able to have them on home demo soon.

The Motives arrived this morning at work, in original packing and looking like new, so initial impression worht the £300 price. I am somewhat surprised by their size - they are tiny. How the hell is such a small box and bass/mid driver going to be able to get remotely close to the Sepndor - I know, it's not. I will listen to them this evening though won't have much time but I have to be honest I have started listening with my eyes already and that's not always a good thing......deep down there's a nagging feeling that a £700 diddly box just is not going to compete with £1500+ worth of medium sized box with proper hand made drive units - it's wrong I know but it's there all the same, and we all know hi fi isn't really just about the sound no matter how much we convince each other it is

Stevie_Blaze:Indeed it is,not the worst decision to be made ever is it. Do you feel i have managed to get it down to two good speakers for my price range?

Yup, no issues with either

This is a point I've tried to get across many times. I don't think I've ever tried anything in a dealers demo room, took them home and they sound worse - most things sound at least twice as good!

Not sure I'm smitten with the motives.

I've had an initial listen, Slash, Madelein Peyroux, REM and some Keb 'Mo. First impressions are to be expcted, nothing lke the extension to the bottom end, and a slightly brighter top end, the latter no where near as raggedy as I thought it might be from the reviews. However, the bass, particularly the upper bass is a bit coarse, and a bit one note. There is nothing lke the control that the spendors exhibit. They do indeed sound "big" but after a while there os somehting missing. The spennies have this knack of getting inside (outside) your head and presenting a subtle but big unintrusive soindstage - its not rammed down your throat. I'd describe them as regal, majestic; and to my ears the Motives sound a little crude, lacking in detail except in the treble where that metal tweeter adds a bit of bite that the spens lack. The thing is the latter hace such a sparkley upper mid that they never sound muffled, just not on the edge of your seat excitement with every recording.

Listening to M Peyroux, the double bass lines are more difficult to follow, but the piano has a great dynamic contrast to it that very impressive. I threw on the UFO CD I was lisetining to the other night, and it didnt quite have that 'wow is that how they play it' factor.

I've not given up yet, I'll give them a few more days, and hopefully some serious watts over the next few days see how they handle gig levels (which the spendors do without strain in my room anyway)

Ok so i'm still undecided about which speaker to get. Both the ATCs and the Neats have different qualities that suit different kinds of music. The problem i have always found with hifi is that i struggle to find a system that can suit every kind of music i listen too.

The ATC's warm sound suit more laid back music such as Morcheeba, Queens of the stone age, Smashing pumpkins,A tribe called quest and most hip hop really.

Where as the timing of Neats mean that they lap up fast music such as Aphex twin, the Prodigy, High contrast,Leftfield and strangely i find them much better at classical music than the ATCs.

My dealer has suggested compromises but none of them sound as good as the Elites or SCM11's. Seriously considering getting both...

Craig M.:wait untill you can demo some 19s?

Yes i will be doing that. I'm just worried that the Kandy will be totally out it's league with the 19's. I feel its just about comfortable driving the 11's. I'm not really interested in changing the amp currently. I might upgrade to a Caspian if i see one going for silly money once the M-2 comes out.
