I'm sure Panasonic's 4K LED TVs will be capable of reference greyscale tracking (in fact, they already are), but there's no getting around the discrepancy between LED and plasma televisions' native contrast performance.

For me, higher resolution doesn't compensate for other backward steps. Not everyone will see it this way, of course.
