I have a Xindak DAC 8 and i use a PS3 as CD transport on it in my system. The PS3 is a bit power hungry and use many other applications which i think is getting in the way for absolute sound performance. That's why i'm thinking of a dedicated CD transport but wouldn't have any idea what i should be looking for. Through the PS3 settings i can upsample up to 177khz which my DAC is accepting and i heard the benefits and i'm not sure i want to lose out on this. Or is this upsampling thing not a job for a transport but only done on the DAC??

Or should i just ditch the DAC and i get a new CD player??

My xindak DAC 8 has a solid state output and a tube output for valve like sound, next week i am upgrading it with an other tube and high grade silver fuse. So i think i want to hold on to it and assume i wouldn't find a better CD player for it in the same price category.

My favourite transport http://www.audiocostruzioni.com/r_s/sorgenti/teac-vrds-t1-meccanica/teac-vrds-t1.htm always fancied one, its built like a brick outhouse and sounds damn fine, especially with valves.

Looks solid allthough maybe to big for my current setup though.

When i googled for cd transport i came across many links that suggest Laserdisc players are very good CD transports!?!

One of the more intresting links...

That's interesting, I guess laserdisc players are relatively cheap too? Something to google when I get a minute.

I'm tempted to buy one. And i understand it should be a very stable transport as it is designed to cary a big disk and the laser is designed to read more data. But doubt it would be better then, let's say a Rega Apollo or Saturn.

Crumbs, I actually had a laserdisc player back in the 90s for playing laserdiscs. I remember getting some laserdisc films delivered to the office and my boss at the time who liked to think he was down with the technology was totally bamboozled. He kept looking at the large 12" shiny CD like discs and saying 'but that's the movie soundtrack, not the movie?' Just couldn't process it - for him shiny silver disc meant music. I tried explaining very simply that it was a very large CD so they're able to put the pictures on to. but his mind was broken.

I just came across many topics where they rave about CEC cd players, transports and DAC's, they seem to always come on top for their price. They are not that very cheap though.

Their transports are good but they cheat a bit on parts/design on dacs. Those ldps look interesting but the huge tray could be a weakness, thats a lot of plastic to be moving.

Well, i also read a quote from someone that collect hifi stuff as a hobby, he claims he has 14 LD players! There are better (normal) cd transports then this he mentioned. I think an LD player could be better then a cheap dvd player as transport and it might be good if you find a LD player very cheap, but... i think maybe some people just get carried away in their personal preferences and nostalgia...

Furthermore, CEC has a CD player that also can be used as a DAC for under 1000 euro. How many CD players let you do that?
