Will there also be a CD players and CDs forum under here sometime in the near future, do you think? Well there's a Turntables and LPs forum so surely a CD players and CDs should naturally follow?

Oh, and why are streamers and the like relegated to another forum? Doesn't it qualify as Hi-Fi really?

Actually, I suggested that in another thread. Using the board search I discovered that it's been requested for the last 4 years :) But Cables sub-forum aside, because not everything is about cables...

Think when this forum was set-up people's HiFis were fundamentally a CDP>Amp>Speakers. Those were the core units. Sub-sections were set-up for 'specialist' HiFi interests such as turntables, tuners and streaming, so that questions about those topics and interests didn't get swallowed-up in the main forum and get lost/unanswered. It just says a lot that we've reached a point where CDPs are almost now classed as a minority interest and streamers are mainstream (pardon the pun)

I know. I've never figured out why they can't use something like VBulletin or phpBB like the rest of the world uses. Probably something to do with them having to run sponsored adverts and banners that annoy loads of people and which thankfully I never see.

I have answered this question on numerous occasions.

:) Yeah, exactly that! :)

Things have changed considerably, and perhaps these changes aren't being adequately reflected in forums like these. Perhaps iforums like this one even contribute to a way of thinking about Hi-Fi that isn't helpful even... Anyway, there's almost a tangible reluctance to hop into the future that we're already in

Bloody hope not! There's far too many sub sections already. There's a section for Dacs, but most put their dac questions on 'hi-fi'.

Hi-fi

AV

Accessories

Miscellaneous and off-topic

Computers, phones, tablets

That's all I think we need so long as people aren't too uptight about 'boundaries' and are tolerant of some slippage (like not bursting an artery over DACs in Hi-fi or a streaming question next to a turntable thread).

With the spread of computer-based audio the number of ways to skin a cat has just increased, to the extent that in digital systems it's no longer obvious what we mean when we talk about a 'source'. (Suggestion: a 'source' is whatever is upstream of a preamp.) But in the end all these things are still hi-fi and surely belong together in one forum.
