Evening campers, long time no visit, (bloody decorating!!) anyhow was wondering if pearls of wisdom may be imparted from thee to me?

I'm thinking of upgrading my cd player, currently Marantz CD6000 OSE Limited Edition, for something a little more modern. It's partnered with Rotel RA-05 amp and Monitor Audio BR5 speakers, and has a DNM Reson interconnect betwixt amp and cdp.

I was thinking, logically, Marantz CD6002 - but I feel it's still maybe not that much of a step up, so any thoughts on a Roksan Kandy mkIII?

Any other brands are welcome, but please, no Cyrus - the wife says they're too narrow. Don't ask...

Cheers,
Neil.

PS - Still no Grado 'phones, damn this credit crunch!!!!!

The Kandy is a great player and is quite weighty and detailed. I used to have one and enjoyed it a lot. I suspect the Arcam CD192 would go nicely with your kit too but I haven't heard it. Also the Musical Fidelity XRay 8 with PSU can be had for £500 at the moment which is excellent.

Enjoy.

The Roksan Kandy CD Player would synergise well with your Rotel amp and MA speakers. Another excellent CD player you may want to consider is the Rega Planet 2000.

Hi,

I had a lend of the Marantz cd6000ose. The consonance cd-120 linear or consonance orfeo are a major upgrade, more open and natural sounding. I tried the marantz cd6002 its good but I would not say its really any better than the marantz cd6000ose - maybe a bit smoother. You could also try the rega apollo or the Naim 5i (exciting listen) as well as the Roksan.

Regards,

Steve

dont waste for CD6002, no improvement for your current 6000ose
kandy is a good choice, but caspian is better...no doubt

You could go for Cyrus 6SE/8SE and get the PSX-R as well, or the Transport/DAC combo to bring them up to full width

Hey Fellas
Thanks for all your suggestions, I do thnk the Yamaha someone mentioned is [much] too inflated for my budget...

I like the Roksan Kandy MKiii, and its review on here is very good (plus there is one I've seen cheap - but it's bloody silver!!), but it seems like the Rega Apollo is a little better from the reviews? And it's £50 cheaper too...

Problem with it is, I've built a cupboard for my hifi, and I'm not sure a top-loader will fit in the space reserved for cd players... D'oh!

If anyone else can recommend something around £500 - £650, please do.

Cheers

Neil.

Musical Fidelity X-Ray 8, £500 delivered, Lintone Audio. Better than anything else mentioned here. Simple.

you can get the mf x-ray 8 delivered for £450 from moorgate accoustics thats an absolute bargain - very nice looking sounding player. it is also a narrow player but you get two boxes for your money one for the power the other containing the important bits so when next to each other looks full size
