Hello all,

I've decided it's time to start digitising my dance music vinyl collection. I see that the 1210 is well regarded on this forum, so I'll use that for recording, but I'd like some advice about a suitable cartridge/phono stage combination for archival purposes.

I currently have Ortofon Concorde Elektro cartridges and the phono stage in my Gemini EX-26 mixer.

What would you recommend within a total budget of around £250.

Thanks.

Hi Tim,

I would probably go for an Audio-Technica AT-440MLa (£125 from Sound Hifi) and a Project Phono USB stage (£115 from Superfi).

I don't think you will get a better combo for the 1210 to archive all your tracks - it has excellent detail and really tight, fast bass. The AT suits the 1210 really well and has a fine stylus which will get past any light scratches on the vinyl.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, that's helpful.

The other though I have is to pick up a Native Instruments Audio 4 or Audio 8 soundcard - these have well regarded phono stages (although limited control over gain) and can record at 96khz.
