For the life of me I cannot seem to get dolby digital working on Sky HD and my Denon 2310 receiver. When I flick through the sources one of the channels has a blank screen with the Denon screensaver but outputs full dolby digital through my speakers. On my other source where I watch my Sky HD channels I can only seem to get stereo and the variety of surround modes but no proper dolby digital

I have it set up as follows:

HDMI port 1 on the amp is linked to the Sky HD box (Also running an optical lead from the Sky HD box to "optical 1 in" on the amp)

HDMI port 2 on the amp runs from amp to PS3

And obviously my final HDMI runs from the TV out into my TV.

As yet I haven't changed any of the amp settings from new. Is there anyone out the with the same or similar setup that can help me out with this? Have I got the HDMI's assigned incorrectly or is there a simple setting change that needs applying? If so which one?

Cheers in advance for any replies

You need to go into the set-up menus and assign the optical input to whichever source selection you have the HDMI from the Sky+HD connected to.

Oh and you also need to make sure the Sky+HD box is set up to output DD via the optical output.

That'll be why it wasn't working then! Sorted now thanks a lot Andrew

I've connected my Sky HD receiver to the 2310 with HDMI and digital optical cables. Input assigns for SAT/CBL are HDMI: 'HDMI3' and DIGITAL: 'Opt1'. I've also set the Sky box to output Dolby Digital.

My problem is that I'm only getting stereo and not 5.1 on Sky movies with Dolby Digital. It appears that the audio is still going via HDMI rather than optical. I established this by setting the HDMI input to none, but retaining the digital 'Opt 1' setting. This resulted in no video (as expected), but perfect 5.1.

I'm guessing there's a setting that I need to adjust to stop the audio going via the HDMI cable. Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Hi Littlelouie,

I prefer my Samsung Sky HD box to send the picture directly to my Sony 40W2000 tv via hdmi and I connect it via optical to my Onkyo 905. This gives me the best of both worlds for picture and sound quality. Why not set your sky box to highlight all HD programmes for you. Go to Options select customise then select "highlight programmes originated in HD" set it to on and save the settings!

Best wishes

Littlelouie: As well as input assign, there is also a section called input mode. It doesn't mention audio anywhere within the manual or on-screen description, but you need to set digital here. Then all audio from the Sky box will be fed through the digital connection.

That's the answer!

Dolby Digital working a treat. It certainly makes a difference.

Thanks wingedwonder.
