Can someone tell me how to mute speakers when using headphones

I have recently recommissioned my late 80s hi if set up which consists of

Rega Planar 3 turntable / Creek 4040 amplifier / Heybrook HB1s / Cambridge Audio CD player / Kenwood tape deck / Sony tuner

The problem I have is that I wanted to use my headphones so bought an adaptor to plug them into the amp (I also notice there is a audio plug in the CD and tape deck) however the sound still comes through the speakers when I plug in the headphones

Can someone tell me how to mute the loudspeakers when I plug in the headphones?

Not sure whether the model is right, but looking at the manual online it should happen automatically when the headphone plug is inserted.

It should. If it doesn't then just use the headphone socket on CD player if listening to CD's and turn amp off.

Does that amp have a Mute or HP Filter button?

Are the speakers connected to the 'switched' outputs on the rear of the amp? If they're connected to 'unswitched', then the amp won't mute when the headphone plug is inserted.

If they are connected to 'switched' and the amp still doesn't mute when the headphone plug is inserted, then there's probably a fault, and the switching within the headphone socket isn't working. Could need servicing, or just cleaning. I'd drop Creek and email and see what they think if this is the case.

Good point Spiny. I forgot the old Creeks had two types of speaker connections. Could very well be it.
