Hi All

Earlier this year I bought a Sony STR-DA1200ES. Since purchasing I have been unable to get a decent surround sound set up. I have 8 year old Tannoy Surround speakers which I think were MX series though not certain. My speaker cable is the same age as the speakers but is decent Bi-wire cable (Though not using the bi-wire anymore).

I have a Toshiba HDMI upscaling DVD player and an HD ready Samsung 40" LCD TV with HDMI inputs as well as an Xbox360 Sky+ box and a Freecom MediaPlayer-35LAN all connected to the receiver. However I never seem to get any sound from my rear speakers no matter what setting I choose. I can hear the tes tone on set up but nothing more.

I'm tempted to replace the old speakers with the new KEF KHT1005.2 setup. The Tannoy's are huge and I'm not convinced I'm getting the best out of them.

If anyone has any idea's I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance.

Hearing the test tone means you have connected the speaker cables from the speaker to the reciever correctly . It must a problem with the connection between the devices to the receiver . Check the receiver manual maybe there is something there. Maybe you have to configure the inputs separately.
