Correct, you can't. The functionality exists (OTTOMH) but we wouldn't pony up for a mail server big enough 🙂

Wee rubbish forums would have far fewer users, and therefore would not require to send anywhere near the number of emails, thus could probably get away with running the SMTP mail software on the same server at no added cost.

They have this on the Jaguar forums and it works very well and save you traweling through hundreds of different posts
