Can I link a hi-fi system to a home cinema system?

I am going to buy (recommendations helpful) a DAB receiver amplifier and new speakers etc for a completely new hi-fi system. I want to retain the use of my iPod which I currently use wirelessly to stream music through the existing hi-fi system. I will not need a CD player.

I am also going to purchase a surround sound home cinema system. I would like to use the home cinemas speakers for my hi-fi as well - is this possible? If so, what equipment do you recommend?

Make sure the receiver you buy has preamp-level outputs - preouts - for all channels, and then connect the front left and right ones to one of the line inputs on your stereo amp.
