Can HD amp upscaling improve blue ray pictures?

My dealer is trying to sell me a HD amp (Onkyo TX SR608) to replace my non HD Denon 2803.

He tells me that the amp will upscale my blueray discs and give me a better picture quality. My Panasonic blueray player BD DMP80 has the HD decoder built in and therefore I run a HDMI cable from the blueray straight to the InFocus IN80 projector.

He tells me that if I HDMI from the blueray to the amp and then HDMI from the amp to the projector I will get an improved picture.

Any thought on this please?

you cant upscale a 1080p blu ray to anything higher as there are no readily available TV that can manage any higher.

are you sure that is what he was talking about? or was it upscaling other inputs to 1080p?

also looking at the specs http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Onkyo-TX-SR608/Specs/ does show that it will pass through 3D signals if you are going that way.
