I've currently got a Cyrus CD6, Cyrus 8 amp (with a PSX) and am looking at an doing a bit of upgrading. I've figured one of the cheaper options will be to buy a few better quality power cables. I set my mind on getting 3 of the Chord Superscreen cables, as at around £65 each, that's in the price bracket i'm happy with. Then I got thinking though.....

I've currently have my hi fi and TV plugged into a pretty cheap B&Q six way splitter. Would buying pretty expensive cables be pointless without upgrading the plug splitter too? From what I've read, I've seen the Lindy or the Tacama CS929 get excellent reviews and to me it would seem logical to get one of those as well.

Can someone who knows a bit more about this than me confirm that this is the right thing to do or if not, what I should be thinking of doing?

Thanks very much,

Ben

Well ive tried a B&Q block and it killed the hifi. So certainly a TAcima would be a very good investment. BUT ~ neither the Lindy nor the Tacima are built for amps so you will probably find it better to plug the amp directly into the wall

Personally speaking ive found braided cables to be far better than shielded ones . I would put these by TM3 CONNECTIONS up against anything under 200 quid (Currently in a sale too so if your interested you want to be acting now)

Why are they not built for amps? My amp is plugged into one at the moment, just want to know why I should change.

thanks

I picked up a second hand Nordost Shiva on eBay for £75 or so, think I got lucky but it was much much better than the Merlin I had. I've also got 2 Tacimas and they are great.

Jim , Power draw Amps need more current so can be strangled - My QED block has 2 sockets for high current devices. Best thing is to move your Amp to seperate socket and see if it makes any difference.

Theyll 'work'. But your robbing the amp of power

Morning Ben
With you having a Cyrus PSX unit (which issolates the power supply from the amp) you also get 30,000uf main capacitors per channel, which is reasonably large. A big toroidal transformer which does a good job of smoothing the mains supply as well.

I would buy a Tacima to start with, (they are cheap enough) and try plugging in the PSX into the 1st socket, then compare with pluging the PSX directly into the wall on its own (so it can obtain a full 13A draw. I can recommend the Classic powerkords of RA, have been using them for many years and do find them effective.
If you can EBay a 500va BT mains conditioning unit you will find a massive improvement on the rest of your kit and you will probably find no further improvments using upgraded mains leads!

Check your Earth bonding points in the house are clean and tight, also the True Earth by your meter. (that is the main earthing point for the house) Having a strong Earth does improve the sound and noise floor.

Hi

When it comes to mains cables. I recommend the Audusa Eupen CSA.

Made a massive difference in my System, espescially improving detail and bass extension. Its also a Cable that wont break the bank :)

I have a tacima cs929 which is good value and 'does what it say on the tin' as it were. But i just came across a profigold surge/conditioner which may be of interest to you all as it is cheaper than the tacima and seems to have the same specs except instad of the cable being sheilded it seems to have gold plated contacts and an ariel connection as well as an extra plug socket over the tacima, does have neons though which may not as good but still looks a bargain will tell you how it performs.

I have one of these QED 6-way conditioners with two "high current" sockets. I think it's been a brilliant addition to my system and it's not too expensive at around £100. In the old flat, it didn't seem to make a huge gulf of a difference, but when I set up my system at the new house it sounded really poor and lacking until I found the box the MDH6 was in. Plugged everything into it and the system sounded as good as it did in the old house again. Guess the power is a bit dirtier in this house than the last.
