... what's up with our TV?

Since just before Xmas on 'Heart' and 'Absolute' radio the wallpaper or design only appears intermittently, so effectively we have a blacked out screen, although the SQ is fine. Likewise the normal TV channels are fine.

I've tried re-tuning the TV a couple of times over recent days. Last night I contacted Richer sounds and I'm sure he thought I was taking the 'rise', but seemed lost for suggestions.

The TV is a LG LS model.

Have you checked in the settings to see if there is a wallpaper option and if it has been deselected?

What happens if you flick between Sky and Freeview for those same stations? Does the 'wallpaper' come back using Sky?

Anyway, IIRC, your Freeview radio signal comes courtesy of the tuner in your Sony DVD recorder so it won't be the TV to blame. (Your other 'tuner' will be your Sky box, so not the TV either.)

Try the coax from your roof aerial directly into the back of the TV and see if it still happens.

Had a live chat with one of LG's TV/IT engineers and he told me to to reset the 'Factory Settings' but that was no different. He also advised me to contact the radio stations, too. After phoning Heart FM the techie guy passed the buck and said it is down my provider. Contacted the LG engineer again, having no clue who my provider might be. He's given me the number for Digital UK helpline and see if they can throw any light on it.

As I've only just got in I'll do that tomorrow.

The LG engineer said it could (possibly) be a poor signal effecting the wallpaper or design or a blip with the radio sattions involved. I think it's unlikely to be the former because there's no picture problems with normal TV or SQ with Freeview (distortion).

Maybe he thought you meant you were streaming their station via the internet on a smart TV (and was referring to your Internet Service Provider).

Have you tried these stations via your Sky box yet? (Or tried plugging the coax aerial lead into the TV directly rather than through the Sony DVD recorder?)

Yup, this is purely from the TV's own built-in tuner and roof aerial. The Sky box is unaffected as it has a uniform blue background with a lighter blue box at the bottom with the radio station and the presenters name.

That's very similar to the image on our TV except our background is black with the arrows in a mauve colour, while the 80's, 90s are white out, as your image.

And Heart FM is an orange station ident on a really yucky white/grey background?

Yes, a nasty light grey background. This is only thru the TV tuner. I've been trying to find the Sky image which, on our TV, is minimalist.

Just looking for transmitter info for Leatherhead / Epsom area (Guildford, Reigate and Crystal Palace?) to see what power they put out these two radio stations with.

No, haven had the alignment checked.

Sorry, I didn't mean some subtle alignment thing.

I mean is your aerial lying on it's back or pointing at the ground or rotated/twisted at some obviously wacky angle after the high winds? (Compared to the normal direction all the others are pointing in your street).

It was 'aerial carnage' over the last two weeks around here. (Hanging off gutters by their leads, sitting on next-door's roof, twisted in all sorts of directions!)

Mine was fine (but I had to have two ridge tiles replaced after the 90mph gusts last week).

Just wondering whether any of this construction work is having some sort of strange influence over the signal. Since work began we've had a lot of odd things happen, such as blackouts x 3, internet problems twice, sewage coming up through the outside drains everytime it rains etc etc.

The TV has got worse. Lost another commercial channel (image). We've had a power cut for most of the day, and I'm just wondering whether this is having a detrimental effect on the signal strength....
