I ask this because I have got conflicting stories. To buy the TH-37PX80 in Dublin would cost €1200. To get the same television in Belfast works out at€860, significant savings. A retailer in Dublin said that there is no problem, however when talking to Richer Sounds in Belfast this morning, they informed me that I would have to get it chipped. Does anybody have a final answer.

Thanks

Put it this way - the Panasonic shop in Limerick are happy to get a PZ800 or a PZ85 imported from the UK as Panasonic do not make them for the Irish market.

The difference between the TH-37PX80 in the UK and the TH-37PV80 in Ireland is down to RTE broadcasting on a frequency that would not be picked up by a UK set. So the Irish set has a different tuner to the UK model. So, if you want to use your TV for analog broadcasts, then yes you'd need to get it "chipped". If you have a Sky or NTL box and only use that for your TV then you shouldn't have any problem at all.

Thanks Mark.

I have Chorus on cable, so I should be o.k.

Biggest load of nonsense i've ever heard. I got the 42" model at the start of May on internet, 1000euro delivered from Europe mainly because this country is a joke. The prices retailers are charging and even the delay with getting them in stock is shameful.I'd say half of the ROI will be shopping up North soon with the huge savings from "Rip off Ireland".

Not the UK. European models have both UHF and VHF, some UK models only have UHF. It will not matter if you use sky or ntl with UHF only.

If you buy online, say from Pixmania, you will receive a TV with all the frequencies.

All the rest about what you say is true about ripoff Ireland.

Although the fact that the rapid weakening of the GB£ in the last year is probably still affecting irish wholesale buyers who set their buying price in GB£ for stock.
